1. Perspective: Der Juni-Aufstand

Erste Perspective des Netzwerks Junge Generation Deutschland-Korea von Louis Cho.

Abstract

Keine Frage, Südkorea ist heute eine erwachsene Demokratie. Der lange, harte und blutige Weg jedoch, auf dem die südkoreanische Demokratie erkämpft wurde, wird leider viel zu selten thematisiert. Das Netzwerk Junge Generation Deutschland-Korea eröffnet daher das neue Format der ‚Perspectives‘ mit einem Papier über den landesweiten Aufstand vom Juni 1987, der die damalige südkoreanische Militärregierung zur Kapitulation zwang.

Unser Jungautor, Louis Cho (조우엽), untersucht die Bewegung, ihre Akteure und Geschehnisse nicht nur oberflächlich und verallgemeinernd, er geht in die Tiefe und wird persönlich, da er seiner Arbeit Interviews mit seinen Eltern zugrunde legt, die damals selbst an den Protesten in Seoul teilnahmen. Louis hofft, dass er durch seine synkretische Sicht auf das komplexe Geschehen des ‚Juni-Aufstandes von 1987‘ der Diskussion über dessen Interpretation und Folgen, die auch 35 Jahre danach noch immer höchst relevant für die südkoreanische Gesellschaft ist, seinen ganz persönlichen Beitrag beisteuern kann.

There is no doubt that South Korea nowadays is a established democracy. Unfortunately, however, the long, hard and bloody road that led to South Korea’s democratisation is far too rarely discussed.

The Network Young Generation Germany-Korea is therefore launching its new “Perspectives” format with a paper on the nationwide uprising of June 1987, which forced the South Korean military government of the time to capitulate.

Our young author, Louis Cho (조우엽), does not merely examine the movement, its actors and events superficially and in general terms; he delves deeper and takes a personal approach, basing his work on interviews with his parents, who themselves were part of the protests in Seoul at the time. Louis hopes that his syncretic view of the complex events of the “June Uprising of 1987” will contribute to the discussion about its interpretation and consequences, which are still highly relevant to South Korean society even 35 years later.
